Ayurvedic Massage in OU Colony, Shaikpet

Where it comes from

Ayurveda is the traditional Indian approach to wellbeing, and oil massage, known as abhyanga, is among its oldest everyday practices. An Ayurvedic massage uses plenty of warm oil and rhythmic strokes that run the length of the limbs.

What the session is like

Expect more oil than in most massages and a steady, soothing rhythm. The warmth of the oil is a large part of the experience, which makes it popular in the cooler months and with anyone who likes a slow, comforting treatment. It runs for 60 or 90 minutes.

Plan to wash the oil off at home, and wear loose clothes you do not mind getting a little oily on the way back.

Ayurvedic or another style?

If you like the idea of oil but want lighter, scent-led strokes, try aromatherapy. For a long, wave-like treatment, see Lomi Lomi. The full body massage page sets all six styles side by side.

Questions about this treatment

Is this an Ayurvedic medical treatment?

No. It is a relaxing full body oil massage in the Ayurvedic style, not a course of treatment prescribed by an Ayurvedic physician.

Will the oil mark my clothes?

Some oil may stay on the skin, so loose, dark clothes are a sensible choice for the trip home.

How long is the Ayurvedic massage?

It comes as a 60 minute or a 90 minute session.
