How it works

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts, lavender and eucalyptus being two familiar ones, blended into a carrier oil before the massage begins. The strokes are gentle and rhythmic, closer to a Swedish massage than to deep tissue, and the scent stays with you all through the session.

Ask which blends are available that day and pick the scent you like best. If you would rather have little or no scent, say so when you book.

Aromatherapy leads nicely into a head massage. It is also the gentler cousin of Balinese massage when you want the calm without the pressure-point work.

Can I choose the scent?

Is aromatherapy massage firm or gentle?

Gentle. The aim is relaxation, so the pressure stays light to moderate. For firm pressure, book deep tissue instead.

Is aromatherapy massage safe in pregnancy?

Please ask your doctor first and tell us when you book. Several essential oils are best avoided while pregnant, so we may suggest an unscented, lighter session.
